There are two types of Jailbreak used for the iPhone. The first one is the tethered Jailbreak. This means that when the phone goes off or you intentionally turned it off, it will not boot without the help of a computer. You have to run the jailbreak program again for the phone to boot up. It's in a way a hassle for some since sometimes, you can't help it but you really have to switch the phone off. The other type is the untethered Jailbreak which simply means that you will not have any problem whatsoever when you turn the phone off and restart. There are just some firmware versions wherein we are left with no choice but to have a tethered jailbreak simply because there are no other options available. But right now, almost all versions can use the untethered jailbreak thanks to the advent of new discoveries by the Dev Team.
