How To Unlock iPhone

First thing that everyone should know is that Unlocking is different from Jailbreaking. Unlocking is the process of making the phone useable for all networks whereas Jailbreaking is opening the gates to that process. Unlocking the phone is very easy. You just have to have a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed.

1. Again, using wifi or 3g connection, just open Cydia then tap the 'Sources' tab.
2. Under the sources, you should find the repository repo666.ultrasnow.com.
3. Tap that source and you will be presented with the option to install Ultrasnow.
4. Check first if your baseband is supported before installing because some devices like iPhone 2g do not rely on Ultrasnow to unlock and some other basebands like 5.14 cannot be unlocked using this.
5. If the device is compatible, just install then confirm then reboot your iPhone.
6. After it boots, it should search for a network and you will be able to use the phone functions.

SHSH Blobs: What are they?

Apple has always been on guard as to how they can prevent jailbreaking and for users to install tweaks that they do not approve. If before, we can always select the firmware we want to restore to, it's a different case now. Say you're on firmware version 4.0, you cannot select 4.1 to upgrade. Instead, you have to jump to 4.2.1 directly as this is the latest version as of this writing. To be able to downgrade, you have to save your shsh blobs by using a program called TinyUmbrella. You can download it here.

By using the TSS Server on TinyUmbrella, you can skip the verification process set by Apple and you will be able to downgrade to any firmware version of your choice provided you have saved the blobs for that specific version.

Install themes using iPhone Explorer

To be able to access the root directory of your iPhone without using wifi, you need to download iPhone Explorer. It's a free app that is the equivalent of Winscp for people with wifi connection. With this, you just need an iPhone usb cable.

1. Download iPhone Explorer from Macroplant.com.
2. Install it on your computer.
3. Plug the phone using the usb cable.
4. Assuming you already have the folder of the theme you just downloaded, just copy and paste it on the themes directory of the iPhone located in Root/Var/Stash/Themes
5. Once done, open Winterboard to install the theme, select then Respring.

How To Install Themes

This is how to install themes on a jailbroken iPhone. You have to have wifi or 3g connection.
1. Open Cydia.
2. Search for Winterboard. Install. Confirm.
3. Reboot your device.
4. Open Cydia again and search for a theme to download.
5. Once done, close Cydia then open Winterboard.
6. Tap to check the theme that you just downloaded then press home button to respring.
7. You now have themed your device.
(Another way to install themes is to use Winscp or iPhone Explorer)

Tethered Vs. Untethered Jailbreak

There are two types of Jailbreak used for the iPhone. The first one is the tethered Jailbreak. This means that when the phone goes off or you intentionally turned it off, it will not boot without the help of a computer. You have to run the jailbreak program again for the phone to boot up. It's in a way a hassle for some since sometimes, you can't help it but you really have to switch the phone off.

The other type is the untethered Jailbreak which simply means that you will not have any problem whatsoever when you turn the phone off and restart. There are just some firmware versions wherein we are left with no choice but to have a tethered jailbreak simply because there are no other options available. But right now, almost all versions can use the untethered jailbreak thanks to the advent of new discoveries by the Dev Team.

How To Enter DFU Mode

1. Plug iPhone to your computer.
2. Make sure to turn on the volume of your speaker as you will this as guide to hear the beeps.
3. Hold the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds
4. When you hear the first beep, immediately release the sleep button while still holding on to home.
5. Wait for the second beep then release the home button
6. The screen on your phone should now be black and you have successfully entered DFU Mode.

What's a Jailbreak?

In the most simplest of terms, Jailbreak is the word used to describe the process wherein you hack the root directory of your iPhone to gain full access and be able to install tweaks and applications which are not allowed by Apple. There are many programs that are used to jailbreak and it depends on the device and its firmware. Take a look at a more comprehensive chart for your device here at Jailbreakmatrix.com - Matrix
